Hi, my name is Vicki and I’m a single mum of three beautiful children, twin boy and girl age 11, and a little boy age 8. Parenting is bloody hard and I’m a fan of anyone who admits it. It goes without saying that I love them to pieces and they are my world, but OMG its exhausting and never-ending!! Throw into that equation the fact that your child has ADHD, Attention Deficit, Hyperactive Disorder. I mean that’s a whole new ball game. One of my children, DD, has diagnosed ADHD and ODD after a long and laborious journey, and now attends a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Yay!! Her twin, DS, doesn’t have it, yet my youngest son is currently being assessed for it! No rhyme or reason I guess.
So, why a blog? Well I love talking to people, even if just to vent and let of steam about things. But, and the big but is, to do it with people who ‘get it’. Truly get it, not just nod and pretend to get it. You know what I mean? I want a space where likeminded parents can come together, share ideas, what works, what doesn’t work, vent, scream (TYPE IN CAPITALS ATLEAST), laugh and support one another through this rollercoaster journey. Then hopefully we’ll all survive relatively intact and with some marbles left! Imagine this as a virtual coffee morning/wine night where we just exchange how our days have gone and laugh at any crap advice we were given. I mean, it would be great to meet up but let’s face it, Covid-19 doesn’t seem to be leaving us any time soon!
A bit about me? Well, as I said, I’m a single mum of three. I just finished a degree in Psychology, and yay I got a first! I have always been interested in people and what makes them tick. Becoming a mum was incredible, watching these babies evolve into little people with entirely different personalities was amazing. Despite all being raised the same they are, as you will know, completely different. The whole nature v nurture debate eh? So, having kids with ADHD, and all the other linked initials that seem to accompany this label, I needed to find out the what’s, why’s, when’s and how’s of it. Thankfully, I like reading, but you can become so swamped and one book leads to another and another and personally, as much as I like reading, I also like connecting with people! So, there you go back to the blog/group.
Hope you find this helpful, I how we can all interact. Please do subscribe on the home page or follow on the Instagram or Twitter. I also have a small, private Facebook group for any parents or carers who wish to join. Really look forward to hearing from you.
